IMDB synopsis: “A group of war veterans must defend their local VFW post and an innocent teen against a deranged drug dealer and his relentless army of punk mutants.”

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will reviewing the film “VFW” who was directed by Joe Begos. He directed the film that came out last year titled “Bliss”. A signature of Begos filmmaking is his use of bright neonish colors. He loves using purples and pinks which normally I am not a fan of dark scenery, but in this case it went with the plot. The main premise of the film is there is this highly addictive drug that makes people look like Zombies. There is the main drug lord who ends up throwing the drug off the roof and one of the fiends jumps off the roof to get it. Of course she meets a gory death and her sister finds her. In order to get her revenge she breaks into the drug lords safe and steals his last batch of drugs. This sets the movie in motion because the drug lord finds out and sends his goons and zombie looking addicts to go get his drugs and kill the girl. The girl ends up going into a VFW bar where Veterans are hanging out as they always do. They are forced to defend the girl.

The film is very gory, the action and killing scenes are very entertaining. You are rooting the whole time for the Veterans who are much older, but experienced due to having been in combat. It was very nostalgic seeing legendary action actors all in one movie kicking ass! Overall the cast and story where great! This year has started slow with providing quality horror movies. A lot of the early releases have failed to meet expectations or just fell short. From Gretel and Hansel to The Turning. I also heard The Grudge and Fantasy Island failed miserably. I was pleasantly surprised with VFW it was refreshing to finally see a horror action flick done right! Yes the plot is a bit predictable and simple, but I felt like it captivated the viewers attention. Definitely had me at the edge of my seat. It accomplished what it was set to do. I highly recommend this film. Best Horror film of 2020 so far!
