Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,
Today I’m reviewing the newly released single “Kaepernick” from multifaceted rapper and entertainer Mark X. The track intro starts off with an ethereal sweeping arraignment notably marked by the overlaying sample of “It’s pressure, man. The more you feel coming back. That’s just a reminder on how much you possibly could stand, you feel me?”
This couldn’t be more evident in the tackling of such strong subject matter on this record, but Mark not only manages to highlight this plight, he is also able to do so with discerning wordplay that showcases his aptitude and clever display upon the mic.
This lyrical dexterity is also highlighted in the chorus.”Kaepernick feeling, I can’t stand up. Started as a poem then turned it into a stanza.” The track throughout maintains a raw personal feel that sets itself apart from other conscious hip hop contemporaries. Although you may be in solidarity with the message, you’re gonna want to stand up for something after you hear this new single!
