Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,
“Bane out of the Asylum” (the titular track from Smalls Uno’s newly coveted release”Frankenstein”) couldn’t be more aptly named. A ferocious onslaught right out of the gate, with verboding and ominous production by Pxncho Beats,”Smalls Bane has left the Asylum!” it breaks your bones and crushes your spirit.
“I was wondering what would break first?” the whole album is methodical, and picks you apart one by one, notable tracks like “Bane Raps” and “Bars on Demand” (produced by fellow A Tribe Called Poltergeist aka Spooky Gang compatriot, SpeakEZ) really showcases Smalls Uno’s lyrical prowess. Verbal intricacies that intertwine all your preconceived notions and desires, and then piledrives them right on your head, there is no escape. Especially on a track like “Shootouts in Hong Kong”
Smalls Uno is complimented by fellow collaborator (and brother Sick Rick) and is a crowning achievement on this release, a verbal tag team ignoring the bell and throwing the ref right over the top rope. There is no 10 count, no mercy, just powerbombs through a flaming table.
The album ends with sinister precision, “Bane Raps Remix” (produced by the legendary Milky Wayne) and features guest appearances by Sick Rick, Boxcutta Maxx, and Indian K is an unrelenting conclusion to an already phenomenal album, it’s a monster of our own creation. “Frankenstein” couldn’t be more of a deserving title. The modern Prometheus, even Mary Shelly would tremble at the sight. Spooky!!
