Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,
Today I will be reviewing AC Braxton’s EP, “The Rise and Demise of Anthony Braxton”. If you are part of the San Diego Hip Hop scene you know AC is part of the Spookygang Collective and he brings his own style to the crew! AC reminds me of a mix of Common and Nas, because of his powerful messages mixed with poetic delivery! This EP delivers and it is the project we needed for 2020! As we all have continued to witness systemic racism and the murders of Black and Brown people, this projects touches on those topics and more! The stand out track for me is the single, “When They See Us” featuring Opoetik and Anaya! They all go in on this track and speak about racism and the murder committed against black men by corrupt cops. The union of Black and Brown people to fight against these injustices! Very powerful and emotional track.
AC shows you his versatility in this project as well. For example on the track, “A Gangsta & A Gentlemen” featuring Spookygang’s members Smalls Uno and Sick Rick. This track talks about not taking his kindness for weakness and having to confront people if push comes to shove! Smalls and Rick bring their murderous bars! Then you get the conscious track, “A Message to the Blackman” another dope inspirational track! The last track I’ll mention is, “Queen & Slim” another one of my favorite tracks from this project. Gives me that 90s rap and R&B vibe! A dope love song that you can vibe to and dedicate to your ride or die! This features Mandi Jo who kills it on the vocals and lyrical Queen emcee Miki Vale who blesses the track! The production on this project is amazing as well from Spookygang’s very own Speak Ez, Ralph Quasar, Evolve and more! Don’t sleep and check this project out! Support the fam!
