Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing the movie, “Murder in the Woods” directed by Luis Iga Garza. It is the first American horror film with an all Latino cast! It also features legendary actor Danny Trejo! The main premise of the movie is a group of teenagers are going to a cabin in the woods to celebrate one of their friends birthdays! Little do they know they are going to a dangerous place with a killer on the loose! The movie reels you in right away! You see an injured man running in the woods, like he is running away from someone. A car is chasing him and lures him to a cabin, you see the killer get out the car with an axe then it forwards to the next morning.

We are then introduced to the teenagers, you have the outgoing birthday girl Chelsea, the quiet/final girl Fernanda, Jesse the shy guy with a mysterious past, Celeste the self-centered IG thot, Jule the party boy and Gabe the good looking boyfriend. It was funny because some of the characters reminded me of some of my friends. The characters were relatable. As the movie moves forward we start seeing each character getting picked off. From the beginning I knew Fernanda would be the final girl! Finally a Latina final girl in a modern horror movie! I love that most of the characters were smart. For example Fernanda knew about horror movies and the horror tropes which was dope. Also right off the bat I knew Jesse was not trustworthy, I just got this weird vibe. I’m usually bad at predicting the ending sometimes, but this one I sort of nailed it lol!

I won’t give away the ending. You definitely want to watch it. Really good plot twist. This film was reminiscent of Friday the 13th mixed with The Evil Dead and just that 80’s slasher nostalgia, but with a modern twist! I also loved that their wasn’t the typical Latino stereotype. Like there were no “cholos” and the teenagers barely spoke Spanish. When they were praying in English I was lowkey wondering why they didn’t pray “Padre Nuestro” in Spanish lol. Also I noticed the killer barely had any screen time you only saw the murder weapon they were yielding. Pretty dope film, definitely recommend giving it a watch if your a horror fan!

Thank you for reading my movie review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz on Instagram and Facebook! Also follow me on YouTube and IGtv to watch my podcast “Nightmare on Sedgwick Avenue”.
