Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing the horror anthology show, “The Haunting of Bly Manor”, Mike Flanagan has created a horror masterpiece! First “The Haunting of Hill House”, which hands down is my favorite horror show of 2018!!! I love how they use ghosts as a metaphor for demons/people that haunt us! This anthology is a beautiful 80’s gothic love story, more than it is a ghost story! This show made me laugh, cry and creeped me out! The main premise follows Dani who seems to be running from her past and moves to London, the story takes place in 1987! Dani applies for a live-in nanny job at Bly Manor. Bly Manor has a dark history and ghosts that roam the house, sort of like the Murder House in American Horror Story. Dani goes to the manor to take care of two kids (Flora and Miles) who recently lost their parents. Dani keeps seeing this figure in mirrors that has headlights for eyes! They used that same imagery for last season, not sure if they are paying homage to Stephen King’s “headlights” mentioned in his book “It”.

I love how this anthology series, develops the characters by each episode being dedicated to each character so you get to know them, their motives and get attached to your favorite ones. Dani’s backstory is tragic, it takes you back to her past and what is haunting her! Turns out she has a fiancé, who was her childhood best friend. She realizes she is marrying him without actually loving him beyond the friendship. She realizes she is attracted to women, she breaks up with him. He gets upset with her before she can explain why and as he gets out the car he is hit by a truck. We then see why Dani was running away, she felt guilt. Dani ends up meeting Jamie at Bly Manor, the gardener of the property. They find true love and Jamie is patient with Dani, accepting her for who she is and the fact that she still sees her ex-fiancé.

The story is deeper than what I mentioned. It touches on grief, death, guilt, ghosts, battling personal demons and more! I do not want to give too much away. To long to write everything that I loved from this series. Definitely recommend watching this! Be ready to be creeped out, laugh and cry! I love the depth of this horror show. It shows that horror is not only meant to scare, but also tell real stories we can relate to!

Thank you for reading my movie review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz on Instagram and Facebook! Also follow me on YouTube and IGtv to watch my podcast Nightmare on Sedgwick Avenue.
