Artist: Malia

Album: Unpolished

Release Date: April 6, 2021

Buy/Stream: All Streaming

Hello Hip Hop Heads, R&B lovers and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing Malia’s latest album, “Unpolished”. I first came across Malia’s music at a Syd concert back in December 2017, she opened up for Syd and I was blown away by her voice, soothing feel good music and killer performance! Honestly Malia is one of the best openers I have seen hands down, and I been to many concerts! She is definitely a star who can headline her own show! I instantly became a supporter of her music that night.

She is very talented and gifted singer. I saw via social media she had dropped a new album and I had to check it out. I was not surprised that from start to finish this album is amazing! She has this angelic voice mixed with mellow feel good vibes that instantly pulls you into each track. The intro track, “Part Time Girl” is beautiful and sets the tone for the rest of the project! I loved all the tracks, but my favorites have to be, Part Time Girl, Coast 2 Coast, Closer, Lucid Dream and Misfit. It is a great project filled with great heartfelt songwriting, dope acoustic R&B/Neo Soul vibes and Malia’s voice is just incredible! Do yourself a favor and check out this project!

Thank you for reading my album review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends, R&B lovers and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz on Instagram and Facebook! Also follow me on YouTube and IGtv to watch my podcast Nightmare on Sedgwick Avenue.

NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “THE FUTURE IS HERE!!! –IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW DOCUMENTARY NEWS”

BY: 7 OCTOBERZ

ISOT-Graham-Humphreys-2021

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I wanted to share some great news with you all! This is not my typical movie or music review post, but for those that know me I am a huge movie buff! I love all genres, but my top are Horror, Sci-Fi and Action/Thriller! I just received a news update on Director’s David Weiner 80s Sci-Fi Documentary, “In Search of Tomorrow!” David also directed Horror Documentary “In Search of Darkness (1& 2)” and he did a hell of a job! They just announced that they added more actors and directors to be interviewed for the epic documentary! They just recruited director Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters I & II), producer Gale Anne Hurd (The Terminator, Aliens), actor Peter Weller (Robocop, Buckaroo Banzai), and those are just a few names from the stellar cast!! Also they launched an Indiegogo campaign to help back this amazing documentary, but also to allow sci-fi fans the opportunity to pre-order the film and be part of the filmmaking process of the documentary. I have included the link below if you would like to support!

I am excited for this documentary being a sci-fi fan myself! I grew up watching 80s sci-fi movies from RoboCop, They Live, Predator, Terminator, Alien, E.T. to Scanners, the list just goes on! I always found it fascinating thinking about the future and how life would be and some of these films predicted just that! Take a trip to the future and check out the new trailer below!

NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “ANCIENT TITANS BATTLE ON THE BIG SCREEN!!! – GODZILLA VS KONG MOVIE REVIEW” (SPOILERS)

BY: 7 OCTOBERZ

Movie: Godzilla vs Kong

Main Cast: Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgard, Rebecca Hall, Kaylee Hottle, Brian Tyree Henry, Demian Bichir and Eiza Gonzalez

Release Date: 3/31/21

IMDB synopsis: “The epic next chapter in the cinematic Monsterverse pits two of the greatest icons in motion picture history against one another – the fearsome Godzilla and the mighty Kong – with humanity caught in the balance.”

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing the movie, “Godzilla vs. Kong”, I was so hyped up when I saw the trailer for this film! I low-key was a bit skeptical about watching it since the trailer mainly showed Kong beating up Godzilla lol. A little bias for my taste, but I still wanted to check it out. I was hoping due to COVID I would get to see this on the big screen! Luckily my positive thinking worked and theaters opened a week before the release. I went on a movie date with my nephew Jax and we got to see the two Iconic Monsters battle it out! We were team Godzilla, but I have to admit the writers did a great job of humanizing both characters. The movie immediately takes you into Kong’s “new” home. His new habitat is being monitored by Monarch, which is a giant dome that is a replica of Skull Island. Kong knows it is a fake home and becomes angry. They use Jia the last Iwi native (natives that inhabited Skull Island) to calm him down. He has formed a bond with her and they use sign language to communicate with each other. Which one of my favorite scenes in the film is between them. The ship scene for those who saw the movie (I got teary eyed lol).

On the other side of the world we see Godzilla attack the Apex Cybernetics facility. Then there is Bernie who is a conspiracy theorist podcaster that works for Apex who believes something else is making Godzilla attack. We then meet the CEO of Apex Walter Simmons (played by Demian Bichir). You immediately get a bad vibe on his intentions and his daughter Maia (played by Eiza Gonzalez). I won’t give it away, but that is my only criteria of this film. I was a bit bummed that the two Mexican actors were the villains lol, but I am glad to see more Latino representation on a monster flick!

Pretty much Walter hires Nathan (Hollow Earth Specialist) to find the power source into Hollow Earth to supposedly use it to stop Godzilla. That is where Kong comes in since they use him to guide them into Hollow Earth (homeworld of the Titans) . We see 3 rounds between Godzilla and Kong, it was an epic smackdown! I really enjoyed this film, from start to finish it keeps you entertained. It was amazing to see these two legendary monsters on the big screen! I definitely recommend to watch it on the big screen! You’ll have a monstrous time!

Thank you for reading my movie review. Hope you all enjoyed it! Until next time horror fiends and hip hop heads! While you’re at it follow my blog on social media @7octoberz on Instagram and Facebook! Also follow me on YouTube and IGtv to watch my podcast Nightmare on Sedgwick Avenue.

NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “SURVIVOR OF TRAUMA!!! – WRONG TURN MOVIE REVIEW”

BY: 7 OCTOBERZ

Wrong-Turn-2021

Movie: Wrong Turn

Main Cast: Charlotte Vega, Adain Bradley, Emma Dumont, Dylan McTee, Daisy Head, Bill Sage and Matthew Modine.

Release Date: 1/26/2021

IMDB synopsis: “Friends hiking the Appalachian Trail are confronted by ‘The Foundation’, a community of people who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years.”

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing the movie, “Wrong Turn”, which is a reboot to the 2003 version under the same name. I am actually a fan of the original. I remember going to see it in theaters back in the day! The sequels were horrible in my opinion. They were a bit dumb mixed with dark sense of humor! The original film had Eliza Dushku as the main protagonist which I loved and she has always been a badass in my eyes. When I heard this reboot was going to happen I was a bit skeptical, but I was actually pleasantly surprised of how dope it was! The final girl or main character is played by Charlotte Vega and she definitely stole the show! This was definitely a reboot since it had no connection whatsoever to the original film. There are no hillbillies, but the gore and action is still there! I believe this film could have been a great stand alone film and be titled “The Foundation”. I don’t know if they did a “reboot” with the same name to try to get viewers, but this movie definitely didn’t need that!

wrong-turn-2021-main

This movie follows a group of friends who are hiking the Appalachian Trail and end up being ambushed by a group of people who has lived in the woods for years! Let’s just say this group called, “The Foundation” is not civilized and are dangerous. Charlotte’s character, Jen is seen as an outspoken but caring person. Jen is the perfect example of someone who goes through trauma and uses that trauma to survive until the end! We see the evolution of a survivor that uses trauma as a driving force to not give up and fight until the bloody end! I really enjoyed this film! I honestly was ready for the worst lol, but this movie proved me wrong. I always love when I find a new horror film that turns out to be good (pun intended) ! The ending almost had me thinking it was going to end in a different direction and then it did a complete 180! Sometimes films are ruined by the ending, this is an exception. The ending was one of my favorite parts of this film! I definitely recommend giving this movie a watch.

NIGHTMARE ON SEDGWICK AVENUE – “THE ART OF SIMPLICITY”!!! KILLCREY – SIMPLE ALBUM REVIEW”

BY: 7 OCTOBERZ

SIMPLE

Artist: KillcRey

Album: Simple

Release Date: 2/21/2021

Buy/Stream: All Streaming on 2/21/2021 Pre-sale link below!

Hello Hip Hop Heads and Horror Fans,

Today I will be reviewing KillcRey’s debut album as a solo artist titled, “Simple.” I am proud to call KillcRey my friend and mentor! I have interviewed him previously and one thing that stuck with me about that interview is he said, “I want to say the most profound things in the simplest ways.” That shit is deep! It reminds me of a Kendrick Lamar lyric, “My simplest shit be more pivotal!” KillcRey also has a futuristic sound and this project is a perfect example! He has created a unique cohesive sound for this project, it makes you feel like you are in outer space! The album from top to bottom is a musical journey. Very introspective album, like the first single, “Claustrophobic,” I interpreted it as being focused on one’s art and needing the space to create. In addition it sort of touches on battling the anxiety of feeling trapped in a confined space and trying to control it. The hooks are also very catchy. I have to say my favorite track is the single I mentioned above, the hook goes, “I don’t got no room in mi casa”. That line was stuck in my head and it is relatable because I literally don’t have room in mi casa lol. Dope project, do yourself a favor and put it on rotation! Support your local artists!
